November-December Newsletter

October 28, 2024

The cold months are coming quickly! The good news though is that means so are the holidays. Here’s some tips and data for fire safety in our homes for the holidays.

More than half of the home fires in December are started by candles. The top 3 days for candle fires within the home are December 25th, 31st and Jan 1st. Always keep candles at least 12″ away from anything combustible or flammable.

Christmas tree fires are becoming less common these days, however when they occur, they are very dangerous with rapid fire development. On average 1 of every 45 reported Christmas tree fires resulted in a fatality of an occupant. Heat sources close to Christmas trees were 1 in every 5 fires. Always keep heat sources at least 3 feet away from our trees. Follow manufactures instructions of lighting, do not overload electrical demand and only use UL approved lights.
